Internet Use Policy

Computer, Internet, and Wi-Fi Access Policy

The Clyde Public Library provides public access to computers, the internet, and Wi-Fi to support educational, informational, and recreational needs. By using the library’s resources, patrons agree to follow the policy:

1. Access and Use

  • Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To use an Internet computer at the Clyde Public Library, a patron must have a valid Clyde Public Library Card or other Clevnet card or obtain a temporary computer pass at one of our reference desks.

  • Parents or guardians may provide standing permission for children under 18 to access the internet by signing the Internet Access Policy Agreement in person at the library. Alternatively, temporary verbal permission may be given in person for a child to receive a temporary computer pass.

  • Wi-Fi is available for use on personal devices. Patrons must ensure their devices are secure and configured properly.

  • All Internet computers will be turned off 15 minutes before the Library closes.

  • The Library reserves the right to end a computer session at any time for any reason.

  • The following activities are not allowed on library computers or Wi-Fi:

    • Accessing or distributing illegal or inappropriate content.

    • Violating copyright or software license agreements.

    • Misrepresenting identity or using another user’s credentials.

    • Harassing, libeling, or slandering others.

    • Compromising computer system security or library equipment.

    • Interrupting other users’ activities or network operations.

    • Engaging in unauthorized copying, downloading, or file sharing.

2. Personal Devices, Software, and Wi-Fi

  • Use of personal software, external programs, or altering library computer settings is strictly prohibited. Patrons must not install, modify, or attach any unauthorized devices to library equipment.

  • The library’s Wi-Fi network is available to patrons with personal devices. Use of the Wi-Fi must comply with this policy. Patrons are responsible for securing their personal devices, including maintaining up-to-date antivirus protection and ensuring their information remains private while using the library’s Wi-Fi.

3. Assistance and Responsibilities

  • Library staff can assist with basic tasks, such as logging on and off the internet or connecting to Wi-Fi. However, patrons are responsible for familiarizing themselves with computer and internet use.

  • If patrons experience technical problems, they should notify library staff immediately.

4. Violations and Liability

  • Patrons who damage or destroy library computers, software, or data will be held liable for repair or replacement costs.

  • Users of the library's public computer networks and Wi-Fi agree to hold Clyde Public Library harmless from any and all claims, losses, damages, obligations or liabilities, directly or indirectly relating to the use of the Internet and the library computers. All use is at the sole risk of the user.

  • Violating this policy may result in loss of computer and library privileges.
